The Covenant Between Christ and the Wanderer
Here I am, Lord Jesus, accept me as Your own; I desire to be Yours and remain so forever. "I accept you, My son," He said. "You have been and always will be Mine from eternity, but you did not know this until now. The happiness to which I am now guiding you I prepared for you long ago, though you did not understand it. I have led you to Me through strange paths, detours, and deviations. You were unaware of My purpose in this, nor did you perceive that I was working within you.
The world could not teach you anything, enrich you with anything, or satisfy your heart's desires, for what you seek is not contained in it. But I will teach you everything, make you rich, and fulfill you. All I ask is that you dedicate to Me all the human zeal you have spent on earthly matters and direct it toward Me. Let this be your work and calling for as long as you live, and I will grant you the peace and joy that people search for but cannot find.
In the order of married couples, you have seen how those who love each other renounce everything to belong to one another. Do the same: renounce everything, even yourself, and dedicate yourself wholly to Me. Then you will be Mine, and you will find contentment.
In the second order, you observed how profit-seeking people labor endlessly, resort to deceit, and expose themselves to dangers. But consider all this futile, knowing that only one thing matters: the grace of God.
Among the scholars, you saw how they strive to fathom everything. For you, the perfection of knowledge should be to seek Me in My works. I give you this one book, in which all knowledge is contained. Do not pursue knowledge for the sake of fame, but to draw closer to Me.
Among the physicians, you saw how they search for various means to preserve and extend life. But why should you trouble yourself over how long you live? You were not born when you pleased, nor will you leave this world when you wish, but My providence governs this. Your concern should be to live well, and I will take care of how long you live. Live simply and sincerely for My sake, and for your sake, I will be your physician and the extender of your life.
In the field of law, you observed strange and complex human entanglements and how people quarrel for their rights. For you, let justice mean envying no one, giving what you owe to others, and sacrificing everything for the sake of peace. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to them the other also. This is My law; if you follow it, you will preserve peace.
You have seen how much contention there is in the world over religious practices. Let your religion be to serve Me quietly without binding yourself to ceremonies. Never argue about this with anyone again.
Among the leaders and authorities of human societies, you saw how fervently people strive for the highest positions to govern others. But you, My son, should desire to obey rather than to command. If you wish to rule, rule over yourself. I entrust your soul and body to your care.
Among the soldiers, you saw that their heroism consists of destroying their own kind. But your enemies are the devil, the world, and the desires of your flesh. Fight against these.
You also saw what people pursue in the supposed fortress of Fortune, indulging in wealth and pleasures. Do not heed these things, for they offer no true peace. Life requires little, and it is My responsibility to care for those who serve Me.
People in the world seek companionship; you should avoid the crowd and love solitude. Society fosters sins and vanities. You are not alone, for I am with you, along with the hosts of angels. If you know that you please Me, do not crave human approval. You will do best by aligning yourself solely with Me. Do not seek to be known by many; rather, distinguish yourself by being humble and hidden from the world. Meanwhile, My angels will know and speak of you, strive to assist you, and make your deeds known. On the last day, all who have dedicated themselves to Me will receive indescribable glory.
I said: I have wandered and strayed in the world, seeking rest in created things. But from this hour, I desire no delight apart from You. I wholly dedicate myself to You; only strengthen me so that I do not stray from You. Let Your grace preserve me; I entrust myself to it."
